Detox & Raw Vegan Round 2
<This was supposed to post yesterday, Tuesday, but I forgot to publish it so it's a day off. >
Last time I did a detox (it was also the first time I've ever done one), I joined a group of people and followed along. Well, my mom and I got together and decided we really needed to eat healthier so let's try this way of eating one more time and see if it sticks. My older son and a couple of my friends decided they wanted to join in as well even though they'll not be doing the same things at the same time. I say the more the merrier. :)
So today is my first day on the detox. I choose to eat apples only. I'm also trying my best to drink my water but that's not as easy to do. I think knowing that I have to do it makes it not as easy. Hopefully I'll be able to keep it going.
What I've noticed so far today is that I have had no heartburn (YAY!) and I haven't been tired. I have been grumpy though. :/ We'll see how the rest of the week goes. :)

Day 11 Detox, Day 8 Raw Vegan
Today went pretty well. We had strawberry smoothie at breakfast, black bean salad at lunch, and mix & match for supper - basically, whatever you can find. :)
Nate decided he didn't care for the almond milk so I bought him some coconut milk. We'll see if that's good tomorrow when we eat our Muesli. :)
I'm not craving anything but I would like to eat a good steak or chicken. Just because I know it would taste yummy. :)
I have noticed my ankles haven't been swollen at all throughout this whole diet. I do have more energy, however, I am ready for bed by 10, 10:30 and so now, it's past my bedtime. :) Have a good night!

Black Bean Salad
I made a Black Bean Salad and thought it was yummy and wanted to share it with you.
Ingredients:
1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 tomato, diced
1/2 - 1 finely chopped serrano pepper (or to taste)
2 cloves garlic, minced
Greens from scallion, about 3 lengths, chopped
Juice from 1/2 lime
Avocado, diced (optional)
Red onion, chopped, to taste
Cilantro, chopped, as much as you like :)
Dash of salt
Mix all well and refrigerate or eat now. It served 3 as a meal. :) Yummmm.

Day 6 Detox / Day 3 Raw Vegan
Today was tough. I wanted to go eat fajitas or a hamburger. Instead I ate beans. If it weren't for my hubby telling me "NO!" and for my son, Nathanael, sticking with me and eating raw vegan, I would have given in. After my pity party, we took Marcee to her Girl Scout meeting. They made solar ovens out of pizza boxes. When we came home, Nate saw the pizza box and felt he was being tortured (thinking there was pizza in it). He was pleased there wasn't any in there. :)
Also, Tom and I ran to Sears to look for a spiral pasta cutter and they didn't have any but he said we should go to Bed, Bath & Beyond, so we did. Although I didn't find a spiral cutter that I liked, we DID find a Ninja 1200. I am telling you now, if you don't have a Vitamix and can't afford it, BUY this one. It is absolutely amazing. We crushed ice with water so well that it looked like snow cone shaved ice. Ahhh, can't wait until I can make snow cones. :) In the meantime, I will be making smoothies, dips, and more. Tonight we made strawberry smoothies. Nice and healthy. :)

Day 4 Detox / Day 1 Raw, Vegan
Today was a good day. I've had some Mediterranean roll-ups, garden salad, avocado salad, and mixed nuts. I can see how it will be easy to overeat even if we're eating raw. Some of these foods I ate today tasted SOOOO good. I ran out of salad for lunch tomorrow at co-op so Nate will get the salad. I am going to choose to eat fruits - grapes and banana - and I am taking along a couple handfuls of raw almonds. I can do this. I will do this. :) Thanks for your support. :)

SUCCESS!!!!!!!
I have eaten my LAST apple!!!! I don't want another apple!!! I did find out that I do like Fuji the best though. I have had a few escapees. Natalie started getting dizzy and almost passed out at work so she bailed on me yesterday. Marcee & Bethany ate sandwiches today. They were done with apples. I don't blame them and am not mad at them. They tried and I'm proud of them all for trying. As for Courtney, well, she has another day to go so we'll see how she does tomorrow. Nate & Wes were the only two who stuck it out with me. YAY! Way to go boys!!! :)

Wow! Just one day of apples and now what?
We had our apples yesterday. Natalie had brought home some broccoli so we ate a little of it. It's not allowed unless you are diabetic but I tell ya, it made a HUGE difference. After eating two florets, I wasn't hungry any more and I'm still not yet this morning. I didn't let myself get hungry yesterday but I never felt "full". Unless I drank water, that is. I didn't drink all of my required water yesterday but I will today. I came close. I only needed 3.5 cups more but I was sick of water. lol Oh, almost forgot. I ate 3 apples yesterday.
Anyway, I got up with a headache yesterday so it's not from the detox. By the time I went to bed, around 10 p.m., my headache was finally gone and I slept well. I don't even remember getting up to go to the restroom during the night, which for me, would be utterly amazing. lol It's close to 8 a.m. and I'm already wide awake and ready to face the day. I woke up easily and have energy. Hope tomorrow is the same. :)

Busily detoxing...
After drinking so much water, well, you can imagine where I'm spending most of the day. lol I learned that I could take 1 TB coconut oil instead of the EVOO so I stopped at Sprouts today and bought some organic un-something and it smells sooo good. I think if I have to eat oil, I might like this one. Gross, huh? :)
Anyway, Tom isn't participating in the apple detox. I think that's sad but he has to decide for himself to eat better. Courtney wanted to wait until tomorrow because she wanted to eat something particular today and knew she wouldn't be able to if she started. I've eaten 2 apples. I'm not hungry. Unfortunately I woke up with a headache so I think I'll take a nap to try to get it to go away. I want to avoid any meds today if at all possible.
Natalie went to work and took her apples with her. I'm proud of her. :) Nathanael decided to chug half of his water this morning. I don't think he has drank any more water since then. lol His belly was sloshing.. :)
I personally now know why the sell catheters on TV. It's very tempting at this moment after drinking so much water....lol

Ready for my diet??
No. If I look at it as it's a "diet" - absolutely not. If I look at it as a change in my life - then YES! I am ready to go on my 33 Day Detox. 3 days of apples. I am pretty sure I can do this. I may not eat but ONE apple on my 3rd day, but we'll see. After the 3 days, I can eat raw fruits and veggies, seeds and nuts, and canned beans. Yummm. :) I cannot eat packaged or processed foods, caffeine, dairy, meat, breads or grains. I can have almond, coconut, soy, or rice milk. I already know I like almond milk. Marcee had to drink rice milk after she was a year old because she couldn't tolerate cow's milk. She only stayed on it for about a year before she was able to handle cow's milk. At any rate, we'll see how things go. My entire family is going to go through this with me. :) Tom is a bit on the negative side, so we'll see if he jumps in with us or watches from the sidelines. Whatever the case, I have to do this for me. For my health. For my kids' health. I know I cannot dictate when I will leave this earth, but I need to do what I can to take care of my health. I want to be the kind of grandma that plays with my grandkids. Not the one who is too fat and out of breath to walk more than 5 feet. So, our Day 1 starts Friday. Nate wants to start on Thursday so we'll see. I'll let you know if we start tomorrow. :) Please pray for us. :)
